De Witt, Michigan Relocation Guide

De Witt is the first and one of the nine communities that make up Clinton County. Its name originated from Clinton County?s first settler and prominent American statesman, De Witt Clinton. In order to make travel easier, he conceived the idea of an artificial waterway, which would become the Erie Canal. Many of the county?s first residents took advantage of the canal and came via it to make their new lives in the area.

Not only does De Witt have the distinction of being less than 30 miles south of the geographic center of the state, it is also a mere 18 miles north of Lansing, the state capital. Because of its ideal location, the city residents enjoy easy travel via M-21, which crosses the state from east to west and provides truck routes to Flint and Grand Rapids.

From the very beginning, people found the area to be a perfect place to live and work. These days De Witt and the rest of Clinton County boasts industrial growth and manufacturing and holds a top 10 ranking in the state for agriculture in categories that include dairy, soybeans and cattle.
