Retreat to small town U.S.A. where life moves at a more relaxed pace, and people stop to chat on the street corner. That’s Harbor Springs, a small, upscale, resort town of 1,500 friendly people on the shores of Lake Michigan.

While the community may be small, we are big on scenery. The view of Little Traverse Bay from the bluff in Harbor Springs is one of the most photographed and painted views in northern Michigan. Winding north out of town is M-119, a famous scenic shoreline drive nicknamed the "Tunnel of Trees." Each spring, the view is enhanced with the trillium in bloom throughout our forestlands along the roadside, and in the fall Mother Nature provides an awesome color display along this route.

Recreation is abundant throughout the year in and around Harbor Springs. In the spring, our forests are bustling with morel mushroom hunters. The summer offers abundant opportunities for boating, hiking, and biking swimming, or relaxing on one of our beautiful beaches. If you enjoy golf, Harbor Springs is the place for you with as many as eight championship courses in the immediate area. In the fall, color tours are a popular activity, and in the winter, we offer the finest skiing in the Midwest at Boyne Highlands at Nub’s Nob. We also offer a network of snowmobile and cross-country ski trails.

Economically, Harbor Springs is thriving. The Harbor Springs Chamber of Commerce boasts of membership of more than 400 businesses, including more than 100 shops, boutiques and galleries in the downtown’s Central Business District. We are also seeing dramatic increase in the number of "virtual" offices, people who are living in Harbor Springs and working out of their home for big city corporations. Because of the town’s upscale image, we are also blessed with many outstanding restaurants and gourmet shops.

Harbor Springs Public Schools are equipped with modern technology, and a dedicated staff. The school system offers a full range of extra curricular opportunities for students. For the community, the school offers a swimming pool with a number of swimming programs, and a strong Community Education program.

The Wall Street Journal named the Harbor Springs areas as one of five communities in the nation that stand out in attracting retirees and second homeowners. When you visit our community, you’ll know why.
