The City of Euclid was recently awarded the "Outstanding Achievement City Livability Award". Euclid was one of 10 cities nationwide with a population of 100,000 or less to win the award. The award-winning cities were determined by an independent panel of judges, selected by the Conference of Mayors. The Livability Award honors cities that have established an outstanding and/or innovative program(s) to enrich and improve the quality of life in the community. Euclid's award was based upon its race relations program, geared to fight against prejudicial attitudes. The three key programs that the award focused on were; the Euclid Community Concerns (ECC) "Honest Conversations Program" a grassroots discussion forum, the Interfaith Suburban Action Coalition's (ISAC) "Crossroads Program" which focuses on racism within community organizations and businesses and the City of Euclid's "Statement of Principles" Proclamation, an anti-racist public petition. A variety of stylish single family home developments and condominiums and apartment complexes are located on rolling hills several miles inland from the lake. Subdivisions with attractive names like Georgetown, Indian Hills, Beverly Hills, and Scottish Highlands are situated here. The fine homes of Wells Place are among the city's newest and reflect Euclid's continuing growth. Indian Hills Senior Community, Cardinal Retirement Village, and Gateway Healthcare Community are designed to meet the needs and desires of senior citizens. Hundreds of fine homes ring the 18 hole In 1998, the City of Euclid, ECC and ISAC together also won the 1998 Governors Challenge Award.
